Kidney Sugar Cookies

March is National Kidney Month! This month is near and dear to my heart, so I made some kidney shaped sugar cookies to raise awareness!

In August 2021, my husband was admitted to the hospital because he was in end stage renal disease. At the time, it was a huge shock, but looking back on it, the signs were there. Because he was end stage, he had no other option but dialysis three times a week and being put on the transplant list. I immediately signed myself up to be tested (as did countless others) and luckily I was a match! Two months later, we had the transplant surgery and everything went smoothly! Even though it took me a long time to get back to 100%, I wouldn’t change a thing!

While our story is a positive one, that isn’t the case for everyone. There are 37 million people living with chronic kidney disease and 100,000 people waiting for a kidney transplant. If you are healthy, please consider being a living donor like me by visiting: https://www.kidney.org/transplantation

If living donation isn’t for you, at least take a moment to learn more about kidney health by visiting: https://www.kidney.org/content/national-kidney-month
